Their island is called Salatia but they call the whole of the realm "Quantrell" (meaning "Silver Cloud" - the land is rich in it). Other commodities include higher than usual mana resources and excellent raw materials. The land is forested by evergreens - pines, redwoods, etc.
Salatian Elves were wild until 1,492 OR. An attempted invasion by the Orcs united them and helped to kick-off their development of culture and civilization. Between the years of 1492 to 1867 they fought off Orc invaders and out of necessity, built fortifications, weapons and developed new magic. Since they drove off the Orcs, the Elves have continued to develop their culture and have turned to academics and art as their primary interests. They have little interaction with outside forces but many in their culture want to expand communication. Others see it as a doorway to trouble.
The other dominant forces on the island are the tribal Centaurs (extremely territorial) and the loosely organized Intelligent Giant Eagles (who are ardent isolationists). The islands inhabitants share peace but it remains uneasy between the Elves and the Centaurs. The Eagles maintain a presence but they keep out of most affairs.
